Kaia Gerber knows the power of a naked dress — and for the New York premiere of The Shards, she gave the formula a dazzling, crystal-covered twist.
Celebrating the debut of Ryan Murphy’s new series on July 27, Gerber wore a shimmering Valentino gown by Alessandro Michele. Though the show is set in the ’80s, the design channelled pure ’90s supermodel glamour, an era she has long gravitated toward.
The slinky silhouette paired a minimalist square neckline and delicate spaghetti straps with Art Deco-esque crystal embroidery layered over whisper-sheer tulle, so the embellishments seemed to float across the body. She kept everything else quiet — soft, Cindy Crawford-worthy waves and diamond stud earrings — letting the dress do the talking.
Earlier in the day she had made the press rounds in a run of timeless staples: a cherry-red Alaïa maxi dress and a sharply tailored little black dress. Where method dressing has become a celebrity uniform, Gerber and her stylist Emma Jade Morrison took the more understated route — proof that evoking the mood can be as effective as telling the whole story.
