Meghan Markle Swaps Duchess Dressing for Denim on a Garden-Center Run

Back in California, back in blue jeans.

After a stretch of travel through Europe with her family, the Duchess of Sussex has returned to California — and to the wardrobe she wore before the title.

Meghan posted the photo to her Instagram Story on Sunday. She’s standing in what looks like an open-air gardening supply store, towing a cart loaded with flowers behind her, dressed in a navy rollneck sweater with the sleeves pushed to her elbows and the front tucked into high-waist blue denim. It’s the kind of unposed, mid-errand image she rarely shares.

The rest of the outfit keeps to her usual quiet-luxury register: dark-brown suede loafers, a black velvet headband, aviator sunglasses, and stud earrings. Nothing loud, nothing new-season. Just the sort of thing you throw on when the garden needs filling and you’d rather not be photographed doing it.

What came before the garden run

Last week, Meghan shared a batch of photos from a summer holiday with Prince Harry and their two children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5. The pictures moved between locations — a seaside stop, a spell in the countryside — and included several taken on the grounds of Althorp House, the childhood home of Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, and the place where she is buried.

While abroad, the Sussexes also turned up unannounced at Highgrove House, the private residence of King Charles and Queen Camilla. For Archie and Lilibet, the trip was their first time back in the United Kingdom since June 2022, when they came over with their parents for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee. Meghan herself hadn’t been back since September 2022, when she attended the late Queen’s state funeral.

Which makes this week’s flower cart something of a reset. Europe, Althorp, Highgrove, and then a Sunday spent buying plants in a sweater with the sleeves shoved up. Whatever else the summer held, the duchess appears to have gone straight back to gardening.
