Prices start at $20, and the designer’s first homeware line is part of the deal
August is around the corner, but nobody has to retire their summer wardrobe yet. Target has teamed up with CFDA-award-winning designer Rosie Assoulin on a capsule collection of relaxed separates in strong colour, built to work as easily on a city street as on a stretch of sand.
The collaboration was a slow build. Assoulin told Bazaar the team spent <em>”over a year developing this collection,”</em> with each decision made deliberately to carry the ease and zest of the season. The aim, she said, was a range that touches both fashion and lifestyle while staying approachable and easy to wear.
What’s in the collection
There are 41 styles in total, priced between $20 and $50. Among the standouts: a striped halter-neck top with matching drawstring trousers, a white polo finished with red trim, flip-flops with soft satin straps, and woven accessories with a coastal, unhurried feel.
It also marks Assoulin’s first venture into homeware. Kitchen cloths, plush beach towels and a three-tier tiffin box all arrive in the brand’s signature stripe.
Designed around a day at the coast
Assoulin, a mother of four, built the range around the question of what a person actually carries to the beach. She described a crop top that doubles as a swim top, picnic blankets that convert into towels or sarongs tied at the waist, cloth napkins that work as bandannas on a windy day, and the striped tiffin containers for afternoon snacks or an evening spent watching the sun go down.
With summer at its midpoint, she has found herself drawn to the more practical end of the line. The striped shirtdress is a favourite, along with a pleated skirt and knit polo in Target red, and the button-downs that layer over a swimsuit top or carry into the evening. As she put it, <em>”you can mix and match everything.”</em>
