Sophia Lewis, who spent around 24 years overseeing denim, sportswear and outerwear at the German brand Closed, has a new project. She is creative director of Ain Amor, a largely unisex label set up as a collective in November 2025, which is now stocked in about 20 points of sale across Europe.
Lewis moved to Hamburg in 1998 to work for Jil Sander and has stayed in Germany ever since. She credits Sander with teaching her expertise and discipline, and says denim later introduced her to some of the most innovative people in the industry. She calls her move to Ain Amor rather unexpected and says the founding group’s mix of skills, from product and production to business and communication, persuaded her to join. The brand is financed by Texdata, a Romanian manufacturer with about 200 staff that also produces for other European labels. Ain Amor is registered in Romania, with design and sales in Hamburg and a sales presence in London.
The label showed its first collection at Paris Fashion Week Men’s in January 2026 and took orders from ten retailers in Germany, Austria, France and the UK, including the German luxury stores Apropos and Bungalow. Deliveries reached shops in July and the online store opened a month later. Prices run from €45 for a scarf to €1,200 for a shearling jacket, with coats at €450 to €550, trousers at €225 and shirts at €250 to €285.
Rather than naming collections after seasons, Ain Amor calls them Season A and Season B and builds them around fabric weight, since climate differences make fixed summer and winter ranges harder to sell. Lewis sums up the unisex approach as “sharing is caring” and says she rarely checks size labels. The brand works mostly on pre-order, has no minimum order quantities and filled reorders for in-stock fabrics within about a week in August. Knitwear uses factory-stock yarn and the wool is certified to the Responsible Wool Standard. Lewis prefers precise claims to broad ones and says the brand does not simply want to call itself sustainable.
Expansion is next. A distribution partner already covers Japan, and New York-based ICOT will handle US sales from next season, alongside a pre-collection arriving from November. Season B is planned for spring/summer 2027. Outside fashion, Lewis has co-published a plant-based cookbook, Dear Doris.
