The Mexican resort destination of Los Cabos has launched a distinctive marine tourism experience centred on mobula rays, the acrobatic relatives of manta rays that gather in vast numbers in the Sea of Cortez. Visitors can join open-water safaris to swim alongside them.
The rays, which can leap more than six feet above the water, congregate in their thousands during late spring and early summer, creating one of the region’s most striking natural spectacles, framed by operators as respectful and conservation-minded.
The offering reflects a broader shift in the destination’s identity, away from traditional resort holidays and toward experiential, wildlife-focused travel, with encounters that may include dolphins, sea turtles and sea lions.
