In partnership with Aveda
Aveda was working with botanicals decades before the beauty industry decided plants were a marketing category. The Minnesota-based haircare brand was founded in 1978 by Horst Rechelbacher, an Austrian businessman who turned to herbal remedies while recovering from burnout and came away convinced there was a product line in it. Nearly fifty years on, the plants are still the point — most recently in the form of the One For All Leave-In Elixir.
The name is doing a lot of heavy lifting, and it earns it. One For All is a leave-in spray formulated to work across every hair type and texture, with 25 benefits in total: hydration, detangling and frizz control among them. Haircare tends to be a deeply individual business, all matching formulas to porosity and density and personal grievances. This one is aimed at everybody.
Building a formula that works on fine and thick hair at once
That was the hard part, according to the brand. “With One For All, we wanted to create a product that truly worked across the full spectrum of hair types and textures,” said Christine Hall, Aveda’s vice president of research and development, in a statement. “The formula had to be lightweight enough for fine hair while still delivering meaningful conditioning and performance for thicker textures. That balance became our north star throughout development.”
The moringa oil, and where it comes from
Like everything Aveda makes, the elixir is vegan and cruelty-free. It retails at $36 USD and is formulated with certified organic moringa oil, which conditions the hair and also does useful work in the soil where it’s grown. Aveda sources its oil from moringa trees in Guatemala, where smallholder farmers harvest the high-value seeds as a way to diversify their incomes. The trees strengthen the ecosystems they’re planted in, which means the supply chain benefits the growers as well as the people spraying it on their ends.
One For All is available now at aveda.com and at select retailers.
