Just two days after launching the highly anticipated fifth and final season of Stranger Things with a star-studded Los Angeles premiere, the cast and creators reunited on Saturday for a special For Your Consideration event, offering fans and awards voters new insights into how the story will conclude.
Millie Bobby Brown, Noah Schnapp, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo and Jamie Campbell Bower took the stage alongside series creators Ross and Matt Duffer and executive producer Shawn Levy. In addition to discussing the emotional weight of ending an era, attendees were treated to an early preview of the season’s first episode.
Millie Bobby Brown, who has played Eleven since the series debuted in 2016, reflected on the physical intensity of the new season. “I feel like the Duffers have been training me for this moment,” she said, explaining that while her character has carried the emotional burden of the story for years, this season demanded a sharper, more action-driven side of the telekinetic heroine.
“It was really exciting to be more of a resource this season not just because of her powers, but because of the physical training and attributes she’s put herself through,” Millie Bobby Brown said. Calling the experience her chance to “channel her inner Tom Cruise,” she hinted that what audiences see early in Volume One is “only touching the surface” of Eleven’s evolution.
Schnapp, whose character Will Byers has endured trauma since the show’s very first episode, joked about his character’s ongoing suffering. “I love when I get to smile in the show,” he said, noting that after receiving the scripts, he mapped out the storyline piece by piece to keep track of the season’s many interwoven arcs. Ross Duffer teased back, “Good thing there’s not a season six or we’d be writing you out.”
The Duffers also discussed the season’s major new cast addition: Terminator icon Linda Hamilton. Ross Duffer said the team wanted to continue the tradition of bringing ’80s legends into the fold. “Sarah Connor is a badass,” he said. Unlike past intellectual antagonists like Dr. Brenner, Hamilton’s character introduces a formidable physical threat. “She can shoot a gun and fight,” Ross added. “She’s intimidating on every level.”
Another notable addition is newcomer Nell Fisher, who joins the ensemble as an older version of Holly Wheeler. Matt Duffer explained that the shift was part of a deliberate effort to recapture some of the youthful energy from the show’s earliest episodes. “They’re old now,” he joked, gesturing at the cast with a grin. Millie Bobby Brown immediately shot back, “Because we’ve lost it, apparently,” sending the room into laughter.
Behind the scenes, the event also highlighted the work of key department leads, including costume designer Amy Parris, sound designer Craig Henighan, visual effects supervisor Betsy Paterson, hair designer Sarah Hindsgaul and composers Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein underscoring the collaborative scale behind the show’s final chapter.
Stranger Things Season 5 will roll out in three parts on Netflix, releasing on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve framing the final journey of Hawkins as both a holiday event and a farewell to one of the most influential television sensations of the past decade.
