Few things are as frustrating as opening your makeup palette after a trip only to find your blush, bronzer, or beloved eyeshadow reduced to loose powder. Even with padded pouches and careful packing, pressed cosmetics often struggle to survive the bumps and jolts of travel.

Before closing your palette, tuck a cotton makeup remover pad inside, positioned directly between the powders and the lid. It’s the kind of trick that seems obvious in hindsight, yet it can dramatically cut down on breakage during transport.
Why a cotton pad works so well
The secret lies in filling the empty space inside the palette. When a compact is shaken or knocked around, the pressed powder can vibrate slightly within its casing. Over time, those repeated micro-movements weaken the powder until it cracks and eventually crumbles.
Resting against the powders, the soft cotton acts like a miniature cushion. It holds the product in place, absorbs much of the vibration, and shields it from the constant jostling inside a suitcase. It also helps spread out pressure when the palette gets squeezed between clothing or other items in your luggage.
