The singer keeps drawing inspiration from fashion’s recent past

If there’s one era Tyla seems drawn to, it’s the dawn of the 21st century. Since breaking through with chart-topping songs like “Water” and “Truth or Dare,” the South African star has leaned hard into a Y2K aesthetic. From vintage designer pieces to outfits that nod to icons of the ’90s and 2000s, her style consistently channels that turn-of-the-millennium energy.

On Thursday night, as she prepares to release her second studio album, A*Pop (arriving July 24), Tyla made it clear that her love of throwback fashion is here to stay. For an album release party at the 77 London nightclub in England, she stepped out in one of her most Y2K-inspired looks to date.

The singer arrived wearing a tiny white bra as a top, with straps crisscrossing across her back. She paired the lingerie-style piece with a low-rise, stone-washed denim skirt from Gucci that zipped along the side and featured a large branded patch on the back.

To finish the look, Tyla slipped into silver Christian Louboutin stilettos accented with gemstone-studded straps. She added a few final pop-star flourishes: shimmering glitter across her skin, rhinestones along her upper arm, and a temporary tattoo on her lower back spelling out the name of her forthcoming album. It was an entrance worthy of a rising star.
