The waistline is on the move again. This time it’s dropping — from its usual navel height to a bold “how low can you go” line that shifts all the focus to the lower hips.
The look began in the spring 2026 collections and carried into fall 2026 on the runways at Chanel, Marni, Tory Burch, Erdem, Miu Miu and Dries Van Noten. Crucially, this isn’t a Y2K low-rise-jeans revival: brands are working startlingly low drop-waist silhouettes into long dresses, distressed leather trousers, narrow midi skirts and even uniform-inspired jumpsuits.
Part of the appeal is how it feels to wear. Dropping the waist gives a longer, more relaxed line with extra room to accessorise — and it makes a belt your new best friend.
Like most things in fashion, it’s cyclical: the 1920s silhouette, reimagined for now. Consider it an open invitation to experiment with shape.
